At Son Espases University Hospital in Palma, Mallorca, more than 30 people accuse a psychologist at its gender identity clinic of transphobia. The LGBTI+ group Ben Amics reported the allegations on 19 October 2026. It says the accounts concern visits between 2020 and 2026. People who went to the clinic to begin a gender transition say she told them they were seeking attention and were not trans.

Claims over hormone treatment

Some say the psychologist withheld information about how to obtain hormones. They also say she told them only she could give permission for treatment, and only when she thought it appropriate.

Ben Amics says the psychologist makes people seeking hormone treatment take “tests” to decide whether they are ready. The group also alleges that she regularly questions neurodivergent people who want to transition, claiming conditions such as autism can confuse them.

Group challenges health department

Ben Amics president Tatiana Casado says the Balearic Islands health department treats the matter as though it belongs to the past. She says many people still cannot get dignified healthcare free from discrimination.

Casado says the practices described breach healthcare protocols for trans people, as well as regional and national laws. She insists that no trans person should face reprisals for reporting transphobia at the clinic.
