Palma dog shelter: 100% staff continue strike

At Son Reus dog shelter in Palma, all staff are continuing an open-ended strike on Tuesday, with only the required minimum services running. The walkout began on Monday over working conditions. Union UGT says 100% of the workforce is taking part.

UGT says workers face serious job insecurity and precarious employment, including problems with pay and workplace safety. It says it has raised the issues for months without a solution.

The minimum-service arrangements are also affecting volunteer groups that walk the dogs, according to the union.

Workers and management met last Thursday at the Balearic Islands Arbitration and Mediation Tribunal, known as Tamib, but failed to reach a deal. UGT says neither the company nor Palma City Council has contacted the workforce since the strike began, and no further meeting is scheduled.
