Spain adds 680,000 jobs as regularisation helps
Spain has added 680,000 social security registrations in the past 12 months, according to August figures. Speaking in Brussels on Wednesday, Carlos Cuerpo, Spain’s First Vice-President and Minister for Economy, Trade and Business, said the pace of job creation was accelerating. He said the regularisation process for foreign nationals had helped lift the total.
Cuerpo said Spain had previously been adding about half a million registrations every 12 months on a consistent basis. The latest 680,000 figure points to a faster rate, he said at a forum organised by Bruegel.
The minister said the rise was driven both by Spain’s positive economic momentum and by the regularisation process. He also pointed to fewer temporary jobs and a rise in permanent contracts.
