Mallorca public sector pay set for 4.5% rise in 2027
On Mallorca, in Spain’s Balearic Islands, public sector workers are set for a 4.5% pay rise from 1 January 2027 — but the increase still needs legal approval. At a meeting in Madrid on Tuesday, Spain’s Ministry for Digital Transformation and the Civil Service assured unions CSIF, CCOO and UGT that the agreed rise would go ahead, the unions said. The nationwide deal covers more than three million public sector workers.
Another payment could follow
The 2027 rise is part of a pay agreement running from 2025 to 2028. It sets out increases of 2.5% for 2025, a fixed 1.5% for 2026, 4.5% for 2027 and 2% for 2028 — an agreed total of 11%.
Workers could also receive an extra 0.5% for 2026. That depends on inflation at the end of the year matching or exceeding the fixed 1.5% rise. If it does, the extra payment is due in the first quarter of 2027, backdated to cover 2026.
Unions want approval before the election
The government has not named a date to approve the 2027 rise. All three unions want it passed before the general election on 29 November. CSIF warns that a caretaker government could cause delays; UGT wants approval before 24 November, the last cabinet meeting before the vote. CCOO says a promise is not enough to put the increase into January’s pay packets.
There is a separate issue for some workers in the Balearic Islands. Following a June agreement covering around 11,200 central government employees there, the unions want payments linked to where staff live and work-related expenses updated. CSIF says the ministry has indicated it wants to complete those updates by the end of 2026.
