Spain targets 10 medals at Poznan Sprint World Championships

Spain has 10 medal chances after securing seven more final places on Thursday at the Sprint World Championships in Poznan, Poland. Those places add to the three Spain claimed on Wednesday. The Royal Spanish Canoeing Federation reported a clean sweep of its qualifying races for the finals.

Pablo Crespo was first through in the C1 1000, taking third in his heat in 4:23,88. That was enough to book his place in the medal race.

Men’s K4 back in the final

Spain’s men’s K4 500 crew of Adrián Del Río, Carlos Arévalo, Marcus Cooper and Rodrigo Germade also returns to the World Championship final. They finished third in their heat and posted the third-fastest time, 1:24.79.

The same crew won bronze in Milan last year. Arévalo later won his K1 200 semi-final in 37.31.

More places on the line

Pablo Graña reached the C1 200 final after finishing second in his semi-final in 42.70. He will start the medal race from lane 2. Laia Pelachs also went through after taking second in her K1 1000 semi-final in 4:21.63.

Sara Ouzande reached the K1 200 semi-finals, as did Antía Jácome over 200 metres. Álex Graneri progressed in the K1 500 with the second-fastest time, while Daniel Grijalba and Adrián Sieiro advanced in the C2 500. Begoña Lazkano and Estefanía Fernández, along with Quique Adán and Carlos García, also made the K2 500 semi-finals.
