Mallorca sports clubs: Palma grant call ten months late

Responsible for this content: Frank Menze

In Palma, Mallorca, sports clubs are planning their season without knowing when city grants will arrive. MÉS per Palma says the call for applications is ten months late. On Friday, 16 October 2026, the party urged Palma City Council to publish it, speed up the process and get the money to clubs as soon as possible.

The city usually opens applications between January and February, according to MÉS spokesperson Neus Truyol. October has arrived with no call published. Her party raised the delay in June, and Truyol now blames Javier Bonet, the city councillor responsible for sport, for leaving clubs unsure when they can seek help.

MÉS says clubs face major costs early in the season, including competition entries, equipment, travel and technical staff. They must plan those expenses without knowing when grants might come through. The party says smaller clubs are particularly hard hit.
