Mallorca trial: up to 66 stab wounds, victim fought back
Up to 66 stab wounds in Can Pastilla, Mallorca: María del Rosario tried to grab her attacker’s knife before she died from severe blood loss, a forensic doctor tells a court in Palma on Wednesday, 7 October. He says she died within seconds or a few minutes. The jury is hearing evidence about the attack on the Camino de Can Pastilla on 10 December 2024.
What the post-mortem found
Wounds on María del Rosario’s arms showed that she fought back, the doctor told the Provincial Court in Palma. Five of the stab wounds caused particularly serious internal injuries, including damage to the jugular vein and both lungs.
The doctor said the attacker probably struck the front of her body first. He believed the wounds to her back came after she had stopped moving. Because the attack happened so quickly, he could not say which wound caused her death.
The daughters’ ordeal
The couple’s younger daughter was in the car during the attack. A psychologist who treated the older daughter told the court that she showed clear signs of trauma after witnessing and experiencing repeated violence. The girl does not want contact with her father and calls him “the stranger”, the psychologist said.
The accused faces 27 years in prison. Prosecutors say he drove on with María del Rosario’s body in the car, caused a crash and was arrested shortly afterwards. The parties are expected to give their closing submissions later on Wednesday.
