Staffing shortage at Sa Fontasana care home in Palma

Staff at Sa Fontasana care home in Son Armadams, Palma, Mallorca, warned on 25 August 2026 that staffing shortages were preventing them from providing residents with adequate care. The USAE union said it had informed the home’s management about the situation.

Workers said that at weekends, one nurse is responsible for 150 residents, meaning treatment and cleaning cannot be carried out as often as needed. USAE said a lack of recruitment and qualified staff was increasing pressure on the workforce and affecting standards of care.

The union added that many employees felt unable to take sick leave because it would reduce their pay, which it described as already low.
