Mallorca theft suspects post videos in stolen cars
Mallorca theft suspects posted videos of themselves in stolen cars, helping police link six young people to a string of break-ins. A Civil Guard investigator told the Provincial Court in Palma, Mallorca, on Thursday, 15 October, that public social media posts showed the cars, some with their number plates visible, and cash being counted on a bed. The six are on trial over car thefts and shop break-ins across the island between January and February 2026.
Videos gave police a trail
The investigation began after seven or eight break-ins and vehicle thefts were reported within just a few hours. Police suspected a group previously caught breaking into a tobacconist’s shop in Campos, Mallorca, the investigator said.
Security cameras showed cars arriving at or leaving places that had been burgled, as well as suspects. In one social media video, a stolen car’s speedometer showed more than 200 kilometres per hour. Police also found one suspect’s phone connected to another car.
Prosecutors seek up to 56 years in total
Prosecutors say the offences took place between 27 January and 16 February. They accuse the six of three car thefts, eight shop break-ins, thefts from vehicles and stealing a number plate. Many of the alleged offences happened in Valldemossa, Mallorca, with others in Sóller, Campos, Deià, Santanyí and Portocolom.
According to the prosecution, the group used stolen cars to reach shops, sometimes changing the number plates. Some allegedly forced doors with crowbars or levers; in other cases, cars were driven into shop windows. Prosecutors seek prison sentences totalling up to 56 years for the six. The defendants are due to give evidence on Friday.
