Stolen motorcycles recovered in Selva, Mallorca

On 20 August, the Spanish Civil Guard recovered 19 stolen motorcycles from an abandoned factory in Selva, Mallorca, and arrested a 50-year-old Selva resident suspected of guarding and tampering with them. The motorcycles had been partly or fully dismantled and were allegedly being prepared for shipment to Senegal.

The operation, known as BlackMotor, began after officers identified a rise in vehicle thefts in Palma, Mallorca, particularly involving small-capacity scooters. Investigators traced information suggesting that stolen motorcycles were being taken to an illegal workshop in the Part Forana before being sent abroad.

The vehicles found in Selva had had their number plates removed. Checks of their chassis numbers showed that all 19 had been stolen in Palma between April and June. Packaging and labels on some parts indicated that the motorcycles were intended to be reassembled in Senegal and put back into use.

The investigation remains open, and the Spanish Civil Guard has not ruled out further arrests connected to those suspected of carrying out the thefts. The recovered motorcycles have been returned to their rightful owners.
