Costitx, Mallorca, has its stolen Virgin Mary statue back after four months: Jesus is missing an arm, and the Virgin has a damaged limb. A resident found the figure a few days ago in a square in nearby Sencelles, Mallorca.

The statue came from a chapel on Major Street. Its theft was reported to the Civil Guard on 15 June after the glass protecting it was found broken. Toni Salas, then mayor of Costitx, urged whoever took it to return it before the Civil Guard found them.

The thieves remain unknown. The current mayor, Joan Munar, told Europa Press that the investigation has not identified anyone responsible. There are no security cameras around the square where the figure was found, making it unlikely that investigators can trace the thieves.

Costitx council says the statue has great sentimental value and is part of the village’s history and heritage. It now needs repair and restoration.
