Responsible for this content: Frank Menze

Mallorca, in the Balearic Islands, remains under an orange rain alert on Monday 19 October as storm Adam brings heavy rain. The highest overnight reading, 90 litres per square metre, comes from the sea south of the island, not from land. Balearic Islands president Marga Prohens urges people to take care in the coming hours.

Spain’s State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) also keeps the Pityusic Islands of Ibiza and Formentera under orange alert, while Menorca is on yellow. Spain’s Military Emergency Unit is working in affected areas on Ibiza and Formentera to restore normality.

Prohens met the 112 emergency service, National Police, Mallorca’s fire service and the military unit on Monday. The Cecopi team is due to meet again at 10.30 to assess the situation. Prohens asks people to follow emergency services’ instructions and get updates through official channels.

She has also contacted Valencian president Juanfran Pérez Llorca to offer Balearic support, and Catalan president Salvador Illa to ask about the situation there.
