Mallorca, in Spain’s Balearic Islands, stays largely settled on Friday while storm Austen threatens Spain’s northern coast with waves that could exceed seven metres. Spain’s State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has issued orange wave warnings for Asturias, Cantabria, the Galician provinces of La Coruña, Lugo and Pontevedra, and the Basque provinces of Guipúzcoa and Vizcaya. Across the Balearics, spells of cloud could bring isolated showers.

High pressure keeps conditions steadier around Mallorca, though a generally moderate westerly wind is expected. Farther north, Austen and its fronts bring cloud and rain to Galicia, the Cantabrian coast and the Pyrenees. That rain may reach north-eastern Catalonia late in the day. Aemet has also issued yellow warnings in Catalonia: for coastal conditions in Gerona and wind in Tarragona.
