Mallorca storm: 16 incidents as front turns to Menorca
Mallorca, in the Balearic Islands, records three of 16 storm incidents overnight into Monday, 19 October, as trees fall and water floods buildings and public roads across the islands. The 112 Emergency Coordination Centre logs the reports between 22:00 and 06:30, with 11 on Ibiza and two on Formentera. The rain and thunderstorms come from the storm system named Dana Adam, which had already caused 113 incidents from Saturday night through Sunday.
Six of the latest reports involve fallen trees and five involve flooding in buildings or on public roads. One road closes. There are also reports of disrupted basic services, a risk of a building collapsing and a risk of flooding. On Ibiza, six incidents are reported in Ibiza town, also called Eivissa, and three in Santa Eulària.
The night brings “a lot of uncertainty”, says Eduardo Parga, director of the 112 Emergency Coordination Centre. The expected weather front skirts Mallorca before turning towards Menorca. The centre raises Menorca’s rain and thunderstorm alert to severity level 1 and continues to monitor conditions there and on Ibiza and Formentera.
Civil Protection warnings remain in place, Parga says, urging people to keep following the precautions and advice. The coordinating committee for the Meteobal weather plan and Inunbal flood plan is due to meet again on Monday morning to review the weather.
