Balearic Islands weather: storms and strong winds on Monday

The Balearic Islands, Spain, are expected to see showers, thunderstorms, very strong wind gusts and hail on Monday, 24 August, as a low-pressure system west of Portugal moves towards Spain. Menorca also has an alert for rissagas, sudden fluctuations in sea level.

Cloud will build across the islands, with thunderstorms capable of bringing large hail and very strong gusts. Forecasters have not ruled out an isolated tornado.

While maximum temperatures are set to fall across much of Spain, they should remain steady or rise in the Balearic Islands and along the Mediterranean coast. The most severe rain is expected in north-western parts of the mainland, where the approaching system's fronts will bring persistent downpours and lower temperatures.
