Palma street-seller raid seizes more than 900 items
More than 900 items are removed from street sellers on the Carretera del Arenal in Palma, Mallorca, during a police operation on Tuesday evening. National Police and Palma Local Police stopped 11 sellers between 20.45 and 21.30, the local force said. Officers issued 12 reports, including one for drug possession.
Eleven of the reports concerned selling on the street without municipal permission. Palma Local Police also prepared a court report. National Police identified nine sellers whose documentation was in order and formally summoned two others to sort out their administrative status.
Sunglasses, shirts and tobacco taken
The haul included 625 pairs of sunglasses, 88 football shirts, 64 bracelets and six caps. Officers also took 52 vapes, 46 cigarette packets, 23 packs of chewing tobacco, 16 figures, nine toys and a megaphone.
A total of 43 officers took part. Palma Local Police deployed its Tourist Security Unit, Setur, while National Police sent officers from its Immigration Brigade and Prevention and Response Unit, known as UPR.
Two need medical attention during escape
Two minor medical incidents were recorded as the sellers fled. One seller hurt an ankle while running and needed help from an ambulance.
A Palma Local Police trainee also received medical care after an accidental knock during a chase. The force said there had been no physical assault.
