Around 40 street sellers tried to stop police arresting a colleague on the seafront at Playa de Palma, Mallorca, on 27 August. Palma Local Police completed the arrest after calling in the National Police. Nobody was hurt, but police vehicles were damaged.
The operation against illegal street selling began at about 16.00, Palma City Council said. Officers requested National Police support when the group moved to obstruct the arrest.
The council condemned the attempt to hinder officers and praised the Local Police team. It said Palma Local Police have stepped up operations against illegal street selling, allowing them to act more effectively against traders.
