Mallorca’s summer traffic jams: a proposed law would cap the number of cars entering the island that are not taxed there and limit hire cars. Llorenç Galmés, president of the Mallorca Island Council (Consell de Mallorca), discussed the plan with members of Club Rotary Palma Almudaina in Palma, Mallorca, on Thursday, 22 October.

Residents would be exempt. The council says the limits are meant to ease pressure on Mallorca’s roads, which have faced daily traffic jams in summer for years.

Galmés also discussed work to finish section I of Palma’s Second Ring Road. Construction is planned in two phases, starting in early 2027.

In Sant Ferran, an area of Palma, land is to be made available for 323 public homes built by the Balearic housing institute Ibavi for people with 15 years of residency. The agreement would reserve 35 homes for the council’s social use. It also provides for a cultural space of 400 square metres and a 3,000-square-metre plot for children’s facilities.
