Teachers over 55 get up to two fewer lessons
Teachers over 55 at state-funded private schools in the Balearic Islands will be able to cut up to two teaching hours from their weekly timetable from the 2026-2027 school year.
At a meeting in Palma, Mallorca, the Consell de Govern ratified the funding agreement for the change. Government spokesman Antoni Costa announced the decision after the meeting.
Schools that want to make the reduction must apply for the teaching-hour allocation needed to cover it. The agreement was signed on 11 August 2026 by the round table for state-funded private education.
The Education and Universities Department will fund the measure. It is part of the 2023-2027 framework agreement to improve state-funded private education, which also includes talks on easing teachers’ workloads and recognising their professional careers.
