Mallorca: seven arrests in six hours of Palma thefts
Police arrest seven people in six hours on Monday over suspected thefts across Palma, Mallorca. The first case begins around midday, when a woman chases her former partner down a street after her high-end phone and a baby’s sock holding nearly €3,000 are stolen. Two men stop him at her request, the Balearic Islands’ National Police headquarters says.
The man is arrested on suspicion of theft. He and the woman had spent the previous night together.
Phones taken from a van
Minutes later, a worker at a Palma ferry terminal sees two young men taking company phones from his van. A police patrol finds and arrests them, and recovers the phones.
At a shopping centre in Cala Major, Palma, a security guard stops two more young men suspected of trying to steal several items of clothing. Police arrest them too.
Cash and thefts from parked cars
At around 17.00, a man spots a woman he says took about €4,000 from an envelope he was carrying the previous Saturday. He calls police, who arrest her.
The final arrest comes at around 19.30 in La Vileta, Palma. A woman is suspected of stealing items from several parked cars. She sells a toolbox for far less than it is worth; the buyer later returns it to its owner.
