A 26-year-old man is in hospital with serious injuries after falling from the third floor of a building in Calle Bunyola, Palma, at about 1pm on Wednesday. He landed on a parked car, which cushioned the impact, and was taken to Son Espases University Hospital.

The National Police are investigating what happened. Early lines of inquiry suggest the fall may have been a suicide attempt.

Support for suicidal thoughts is available in Spain through the Health Ministry’s 024 helpline, the 112 emergency service, which has psychology professionals, and the Telephone of Hope on 717003717. In the Balearic Islands, the Telephone of Hope can be reached on 971461112.
