Spain’s tourism digital payments jump 17.1%
Spain’s tourism businesses record 17.1% more digital payments in summer 2026 than a year earlier, driven largely by small purchases. Payments under 10 euros account for 62.1% of the total, according to an analysis by financial technology firm SumUp. It gives no separate figures for Mallorca in the Balearic Islands.
Small purchases drive the rise
A further 18.4% of digital payments fall between 10 and 20 euros. As smaller purchases make up more transactions, the average amount paid digitally drops from 18.6 euros in 2025 to 15.7 euros in 2026. Payments over 50 euros account for just 6.1% of this summer’s total.
Music, concert and cinema businesses see the sharpest growth in digital transactions, up 54.5%. Souvenir shops record a 33.9% rise and hotels 28.4%.
Inland destinations pull ahead
Spain’s Castile and León region leads the regional increases at 47.4%, followed by Asturias at 38.8% and Extremadura at 32.1%. Only eight coastal towns make SumUp’s list of the 25 places with the strongest growth.
For Mallorca, the question remains open: the figures do not show whether digital payments there are rising at anything like the national rate.
