Mallorca's Vilafranca de Bonany school plan advances
Mallorca's planned secondary school in Vilafranca de Bonany moves closer: on Friday, 9 October, the Balearic government grants its construction project special strategic status. The decision is intended to speed up the paperwork for a school that will take pupils from Vilafranca de Bonany, Montuïri, Petra and Sant Joan.
The government also designates the site for public education. The plot has a net area of 10,347 square metres, but it is currently classed as rural land. The new status gives the project a basis in planning rules and makes it easier to separate the site in cadastral and property records — a necessary step for the scheme.
The school will have three streams of compulsory secondary education, known as ESO. It aims to ease pressure on the secondary schools in Sineu and Porreres. Government spokesman Antoni Costa said after Friday's cabinet meeting that the town had been calling for the new school.
