Mallorca: Vox rejects Palma capital law, but it may pass
Palma, Mallorca: Vox says it will vote against the city’s capital law, but the bill is still expected to pass. Deputy parliamentary spokesman Sergio Rodríguez announced the decision on Wednesday, 14 October, after a parliamentary committee reviewed the text. It now goes to the full chamber for a final vote.
Why Vox is voting no
Rodríguez says changes to the bill have undermined an agreement between Vox’s Palma councillors and the city’s mayor. Vox’s proposals on housing and language were left out. An amendment agreed by the PP and parties on the left was included instead, allowing nurses to run health centres. Rodríguez says that issue has nothing to do with Palma’s capital law.
He acknowledged that Vox had put unrelated amendments into laws during this parliamentary term, but said the party had since changed its position. The PP, PSIB and Vox had all backed taking up the capital law, which is expected to pass despite Vox’s planned vote against it.
Vox also challenges Mallorca vehicle bill
Vox has filed amendments to a separate bill that would limit the number of vehicles coming to Mallorca. Rodríguez says parts of that proposal could restrict freedom of movement and appear designed to raise revenue.
