Mallorca separate waste collection rises 9.1% in 2025
Separate waste collection in Mallorca rose by 9.1% in 2025, with more than 162,000 tonnes sorted at source, according to Mallorca Preservation. The figures, released in Palma, Mallorca, on 19 August 2026, show that separately collected material accounted for 24.9% of municipal waste.
Mallorca generated 1.5 million tonnes of waste during 2025. Special waste made up 52.5% of the total, while municipal solid waste represented 47.5%.
Organic waste records the fastest growth
Organic material accounted for 9% of separately collected waste and posted the largest increase, rising 17.4%. Light packaging increased by 13.4%, while paper and cardboard collection grew by 2.8%.
Paper represented 5.8% of separately collected material, plastic 5.2% and glass 4.9%. Glass was the only listed stream to fall, declining by 0.8%.
Residual waste remains the largest share
Waste placed in residual bins fell by 1.02%, the first decrease recorded in that category. Even so, residual waste still made up 75.1% of municipal collection.
Collection volumes also varied by season. Nearly 103,000 tonnes of separately collected waste were recorded between May and October, compared with more than 59,000 tonnes from November to April.
