Mallorca: just 1.6% of Waynabox trips start in Palma
Palma Airport on Mallorca accounts for just 1.6% of Waynabox surprise-trip departures in 2026: more customers are starting outside Madrid and Barcelona, but few from the island. Company figures reported by Europa Press on 13 October 2026 put Ibiza at 0.1%, bringing the Balearic Islands’ share to 1.7%. Across Waynabox’s trips, 24.5% of travellers now start at airports other than Madrid-Barajas and Barcelona-El Prat, up from 9.6% in 2022.
Regional airports gain ground
Barcelona remains Waynabox’s biggest departure point, with 45.5% of travellers, followed by Madrid at 30%. Barcelona’s share has fallen from 59.4% in 2022, while Madrid’s has stayed close to 30%.
Waynabox chief executive Jordi Agustí says demand for surprise trips from other cities has grown since 2022, despite the loss of some regional routes. Málaga now accounts for 6% of departures, making it the company’s third-biggest starting point.
A higher price to set off closer to home
A three-night surprise trip from a regional airport starts at 250 euros per person, including flights and accommodation. The starting price is 200 euros from Madrid or Barcelona and 350 euros from the Canary Islands.
Agustí says regional departures cost more because there are fewer flights, higher fares and less competition between airlines. For anyone hoping to start a Waynabox trip from Mallorca, Palma is an option — but its share of departures remains small.
