Mallorca weather alert closes day centres, halts home care

Responsible for this content: Frank Menze

On the island of Mallorca, a weather alert closes council-run day centres and stops a home care service on Monday. The Mallorca Island Council is also suspending activities at its personal independence support centres (CPAP). It says the changes are meant to protect people who use the services and the staff who care for them.

Day services at disability care centres with places contracted through the Mallorcan Institute of Social Affairs (IMAS) will also close as a precaution. The institute’s in-person registration desk will shut, but electronic registration will continue as normal.

The council is keeping in touch with the Balearic Government’s Directorate-General for Emergencies to monitor the weather and coordinate any action needed. It urges the public to take extra care and follow official emergency warnings and advice.
