Mallorca weightlifting: 50-plus lifters meet in Palma
Mallorca hosts more than 50 weightlifters at Palma’s Rudy Fernández municipal sports centre on Saturday, 17 October. They come from Mallorca, Menorca and Ibiza for the fifth Trofeo Ciutat de Palma de Halterofilia, a weightlifting tournament. It runs from 08.30 to 19.00, Palma City Council said when it presented the event on Wednesday.
Children under ten will compete in a technical category. Juniors aged 13 to 20 and master lifters will also take part. Prizes are open to athletes with and without federation membership, as organisers seek to bring more people into the sport.
Among those competing are Marion Couturier of Club Pesas Ciutat de Palma and Pep Torres from Ibiza. Both have recent international experience at events including the Masters World Championship in Athens and the Masters European Championship in Belgium last June. The Palma club, which has a 30-year history, is organising the tournament.
