Marratxí wildfire prevention works completed in two woods
Marratxí Council has completed wildfire prevention and restoration work in the Es Garrovers and Sant Marçal woodland areas in Marratxí, Mallorca. The authority said on 18 August 2026 that the project is intended to lower fire risk and return the sites to use by local residents.
Fire-risk reduction measures
Work included creating firebreaks, pruning trees with damaged branches and removing dead trees or those at risk of falling. Crews also treated pests, shredded vegetation, managed shrub areas and carried out general cleaning.
Rubbish that had accumulated at several locations was removed to improve safety and the environmental condition of the woods. The council said some pine-covered areas had been in poor condition and could have increased the danger in the event of a fire.
The work cost €17,970 at Es Garrovers and €18,050 at Sant Marçal. It follows earlier restoration projects in Es Figueral, Sa Vinya de Son Verí and Son Ramonell, with further work planned in Pòrtol.
Improved access for leisure
The project has opened corridors and paths through the vegetation, making the woodland more accessible, particularly for residents walking with pets. Mayor Jaume Llompart said the aim was for these small Mediterranean woodland areas to become everyday places for walking and recreation.
Sant Marçal's small wood is already used for picnics, meals and community celebrations. The council said the improvements will provide a more comfortable, accessible and safer setting for those activities.
