Balearics: 6.2% work absence rate is Spain's lowest
The Balearics recorded Spain's lowest work absence rate in the first quarter of 2026, at 6.2%. The figure was up 0.2 percentage points on the previous quarter. The Adecco Group Institute reported the result in its quarterly study of absence, workplace accidents and occupational illnesses.
Temporary incapacity leave stood at 4.6%, also the lowest rate in Spain and 0.1 percentage points below the level a year earlier.
Industry and construction post the lowest rates
Industry in the Balearics had a work absence rate of 5.1%, the lowest in the country and 0.6 percentage points down on 2025. Construction came in at 3.2%, 1.2 percentage points lower than in 2025.
Services recorded 6.6%, up 0.4 percentage points on 2025. That was Spain's second-lowest rate for the sector, behind La Rioja on 6.2%.
Accidents fall but remain among Spain's highest
The Balearics recorded 240 workplace accidents per 100,000 affiliated workers each month. That was a 9.4% fall on the previous year, the largest drop among Spain's 17 regions.
Even so, the islands still had Spain's fourth-highest workplace accident rate. Across Spain, the overall work absence rate was 7.62% in the first quarter of 2026.
