Mallorca hospital: Son Espases faces bullying claim

Sabrina Vidal says workplace bullying at Palma’s Son Espases University Hospital left her needing psychological support and two months off work after anxiety attacks. The former communications chief, who had led the office since November 2024, has since left the Balearic Islands Health Service, IBSalut. She made the allegation in a social-media post on Tuesday, calling herself a survivor of the hospital management.

Vidal did not name hospital manager Cristina Granados. But she described put-downs at weekly meetings and said she was told to leave during the management team’s Christmas photograph. She first asked to be moved, transferred to another hospital and later left IBSalut.

The Balearic Islands Journalists’ Union, SPIB, has backed Vidal and called for any suspected workplace bullying to be investigated with full safeguards. It said the alleged humiliation, pressure and undermining should not be tolerated in public workplaces.

IBSalut director general Javier Ureña said on Wednesday that the health service had not received notice of the case through either its Occupational Risk Prevention Service or its internal reporting channel. That channel has received 2,800 reports, alerts or complaints so far this year.

Ureña said IBSalut had identified professional technical disagreements and had offered Vidal a move to another workplace. He ruled out removing Granados over this case or other recent controversies at Son Espases.
