ZEL Mallorca revenue jumps fivefold after repositioning

On Mallorca, ZEL Mallorca takes in five times as much revenue in its first season since repositioning, Meliá Hotels International says on Monday, 19 October. The hotel is part of a wider investment drive that includes a 50 million euro renovation of Paradisus Cancún in Quintana Roo, Mexico. Guests returned to the Cancún hotel in April, though its official reopening ceremony took place on Sunday.

Meliá says the Cancún work aims to improve the hotel's facilities and management, as well as its value and profitability. The group also wants to work more with local suppliers and expects the project to create more than 650 indirect jobs in Quintana Roo.

Meliá and its property-owning partners and co-investors have put 1,000 million euros into raising the value of 90 hotels in recent years. Alongside ZEL Mallorca, the projects include Villa Le Blanc Gran Meliá on Menorca and Paradisus hotels in the Canary Islands. For Meliá, the Mallorca hotel's first-season revenue is an early result of that strategy.
