100 Balearic 112 staff train for violence calls

About 100 workers at the Balearic Islands’ 112 Emergency Coordination Centre are set to receive training during 2026 on handling calls about violence against women. IBDona has already begun the self-led course for the emergency service staff.

The training is designed to help workers recognise different forms of gender-based violence and warning signs that may emerge during an emergency call. It also covers specific response procedures intended to protect victims immediately.

Staff will practise how to listen actively, respond with empathy and remain professionally neutral. The course also gives guidance on working with police, health and social services, and specialist support providers.

The programme includes advice on self-care and managing emotions for staff who deal with situations carrying a high psychological burden. The Ministry of the Presidency, Coordination of Government Action and Local Cooperation said the training aims to strengthen respect, equality and zero tolerance of gender-based violence across institutions.
