In Eivissa, Ibiza, Vox leader Santiago Abascal is courting Socialist voters: he wants them to back him in Spain’s 29 November general election. At a rally on Saturday, 24 October, he said he believed some people who had voted Socialist would now vote for Vox — and that he hoped to persuade many more. He claimed they had been deceived because the Socialists had promised not to make deals with terrorists and separatists, then done so.

Abascal also attacked Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, the Socialist candidate. He accused Sánchez of years of lying and claimed videos of him dancing and wearing T-shirts on social media were meant to distract from his record. Abascal further alleged that the Socialists were trying to hide an attempted fraud involving the so-called “grandchildren law”.

Turning to foreign policy, Abascal accused the government of failing to challenge Morocco over what he called an “invasion” of Ceuta. On migration, he said Vox cared about people’s views, not their skin colour. He argued against telling migrants they could enter illegally and later gain legal status or citizenship, and said people who committed crimes should be sent to prisons in their countries of origin.
