Menorca, in the Balearic Islands, is set for more than €447,000 in addiction support: the regional government has cleared an agreement to help fund care and prevention. On Friday, 30 October, it authorised the Balearic Ministry of Health to sign the deal with the Menorca Island Council. The ministry will contribute a little over €447,000 towards programmes running from 1 January 2026 to 31 December 2029.

The plans include preparing and supplying methadone for people using addiction treatment units. Staff at the units would gain access to a new patient record, while the units would get a minimum range of services and standard procedures for care.

The agreement also calls for earlier detection and help for vulnerable minors, alongside training for professionals who work with addiction. It covers materials for a syringe-exchange programme and rapid HIV testing, plus teaching resources for prevention in schools. The deal builds on cooperation between the Balearic government and Menorca that began in 2011.
