Four firms chase Aena’s nearly €80m airport software deal
Nearly €80 million is at stake across Aena’s airports: the operator wants one new system to manage daily flights and assign boarding gates, runways and check-in desks. Amadeus IT Group, Indra Sistemas, Sita Information Networking and T-Systems ITC have applied for the first stage, Europa Press reported from Madrid on 5 October. The plan covers all Aena airports, but there is no date for the software to reach any individual airport.
Why Aena wants a new system
Aena says its current systems have limits and that it could not find a complete ready-made replacement. It wants the new software to improve customer service, cut maintenance costs and make updates quicker to introduce.
The operator is seeking a single technology partner. It says the work cannot be split between suppliers because it needs close technical coordination.
Five years to build it, then a decision
Up to €60.5 million is set aside for research, development and a gradual rollout over as many as five years. Technical needs could add another year without increasing the price. The work would move from an initial usable version to deployment at airports with different systems for managing resources and coordinating flight operations.
A further €19.36 million would cover four years of operation after delivery. But Aena can drop that phase if the software misses its targets or better options appear on the market. Technical criteria will account for 70% of the final award decision, with price making up 30%.
