Eivissa hands the keys to seven affordable homes in sa Penya to 17 people on Monday. The successful applicants will sign their rental contracts before being taken to the homes, which were allocated in a public draw in June.

The Eivissa Town Hall has set the rent at €6.18 per square metre, leaving tenants to pay between €203 and €460. It says those prices sit well below the usual market level.

Two of the homes have two bedrooms and are intended for families of up to four people. Three have one bedroom, while the homes on Carrer de Retir are reserved for people under 35.

Applicants had to prove they had been registered continuously in the municipality of Eivissa for ten years. Mayor Rafa Triguero said the handover expands the public stock of affordable housing, but added that the housing situation will not change overnight.
