Balearic firms beat Spain on AI, lag on home working
In Spain’s Balearic Islands, 35.7% of companies headquartered in the region with at least ten employees use artificial intelligence (AI). The figure covers the first quarter of 2026 and beats Spain’s 33.6% average, though it trails Catalonia’s 48.7%. The figures come from a survey published on Thursday by Spain’s National Statistics Institute.
The comparison flips for home working. Just 26.7% of Balearic companies allow it, against 37.7% across Spain. In Madrid the figure is 52.5%, and in Catalonia it is 45%.
The survey also shows how firms across the islands use other digital tools. Among those with an internet connection, 79.6% use the web and 75.8% use social media. Cloud services are used by 30%, while 28.4% use data analysis. Software for planning company resources is used by 47.3%, and 28.1% use programs to manage customer relationships.
