Air Europa takes 21.2% of overbooking complaints
Air Europa drew 21.2% of airline complaints handled by reclamador.es during summer 2026, putting it top of the platform’s overbooking list. Overbooking means selling more tickets than there are seats. The figures were released in Madrid on 14 September.
High travel demand and heavy summer operations pushed booking systems at several international airlines to the edge of their forecasting capacity, reclamador.es said. Carriers operating transatlantic and medium-haul routes were particularly affected.
easyJet and Brussels Airlines tied behind
easyJet and Brussels Airlines each accounted for 16% of the overbooking complaints, sharing second place. Etihad Airways followed with 14.8%.
The four airlines together made up 68% of complaints from passengers denied boarding in June, July and August. The remaining 32% was spread across international and low-cost carriers, including ITA Airways, KLM and Qatar Airways, with each below 6%.
Passengers can seek up to €600
Reclamador.es said affected passengers can seek compensation of between €250 and €600 from the airline. They can also ask for a ticket refund or alternative transport.
The online legal service added that airlines must cover any extraordinary expenses.
