Mallorca air force exercise: first command team in Pollença
Pollença, Mallorca, is hosting an air force command team for the first time: personnel are planning exercise missions from the air base’s seaplane parking apron between 15 and 29 October 2026.
Spain’s Air and Space Force has sent part of its joint-force air command team, known as ESP JFAC, to the base for the Sirio-Dragón-Tormenta 2026 exercise. The former Pollença airfield was recently reclassified as an air base.
The apron was not prepared for this kind of work, but support from the base, a mobile air control group, an air deployment squadron, an IT centre and the Matacán Schools Group has allowed the team to carry out its duties there, the force says.
The exercise tests how the command team deploys. It also trains and assesses combat, support and command-and-control units, with the aim of keeping them ready for operations and for air units that Spain may need to assemble quickly under its international commitments.
