Menorca Airport theft: three held over nearly €1,000

Nearly €1,000 of goods stolen from shops at Menorca Airport was found in the luggage of three people, police said. Two men and a woman were arrested on the night of 19 September. Officers from the National Police in Maó had spotted the trio in the departure area behaving nervously and evasively.

A search of their bags uncovered valuable items, four cartons of tobacco and several bottles of luxury-brand perfume. The three could not show they had legally bought the goods.

Police then checked several airport shops and confirmed that the items had come from their stock and had recently been stolen. The haul was valued at nearly €1,000.

The three were taken to a police station on suspicion of theft. The investigation remains open as officers trace other items found in their belongings, including tobacco bought on flights with bank cards. They are examining whether there were further irregularities or fraud involving airlines.
