Mallorca shift for Aita Mari as fuel costs double
Responsible for this content: Frank Menze
Mallorca becomes a focus for a sea rescue organisation as a 100% rise in fuel prices delays its ship’s next mission in the central Mediterranean until 2027. Salvamento Marítimo Humanitario (SMH) said on 14 October 2026 that it is shifting its work towards Valencia, Mallorca and Menorca after postponing the Aita Mari mission.
The organisation has launched a crowdfunding appeal to cover the extra fuel costs. It gave no details of what its shift towards Mallorca will involve.
