On Mallorca, Alaró’s council is borrowing more than €636,000 to fit LEDs at 737 streetlight points: it expects the lights to use more than 45% less energy each year. The council signed the loan on Tuesday, 20 October 2026. Work is expected to start next month and finish in early 2027.

The plan gives each light a remote system so the council can control, adjust and monitor it separately. Nine control centres and other equipment will also be upgraded. Measurements after the work will check how well the new lighting works.

The council expects lower electricity costs as well as lower energy use. The loan comes through a state programme run by the Institute for Energy Diversification and Saving. Councils can borrow interest-free under the programme and repay the money over ten years.
