Mallorca rape trial: woman says man raped her in alley
In Alaró, Mallorca, a woman says a man pulled her into a dark street and raped her. Prosecutors are seeking eight years in prison. She gave her account at the Balearic Islands Provincial Court in Palma, Mallorca, on 3 November 2026. She says the attack happened as she walked home in the early hours of 28 October 2018; the accused says they had consensual sex.
Her account of the walk home
The woman told the court that the man, whom she did not know, approached her in the street and took her by the arm. She said no, she testified. He led her towards a bar but walked past it and into a dark street, where she says he pushed her against a parked car and raped her.
She said she got free and went home, then messaged a friend about what had happened. The next day, she reported it to the Guardia Civil and went to hospital for an examination. She later identified the accused from among possible suspects. An investigator told the court she had identified him without doubt.
Accused disputes her account
The man said he met the woman in a bar, danced with her and went to another venue, where they hugged and kissed. He said they then had sex in a secluded part of the street. He denied using force and said he believed the sex was consensual.
Prosecutors are seeking eight years in prison and 25,000 euros in compensation. The defence is asking for an acquittal and says the accused has already paid 10,000 euros towards civil liability. The trial has ended, and the court has yet to give its verdict.
