Mallorca’s Torrens starts top-flight bid with Azulmarino

Mallorca is back in Spain’s top women’s basketball division, with Alba Torrens joining newly promoted Azulmarino for the 2026-27 season. The Mallorca player says the home-island project brings both excitement and responsibility. She set out her plans at the Liga Femenina Endesa launch in Madrid on 15 September.

Azulmarino have only just won promotion to the Liga Femenina Endesa, Spain’s highest women’s league. Torrens said the side must stay grounded as it finds its feet, while still pursuing the targets it sets during the season.

Her immediate focus is on getting the squad together and ready to compete. Torrens said Azulmarino know the standard of the league and will put everything into meeting it.

The presentation also followed Spain’s bronze-medal finish at the World Championship in Berlin, Torrens’s fourth world podium. The national-team captain said the achievement belonged to far more than the players on court, naming coach Miguel Méndez and Elisa Aguilar, president of the Spanish Basketball Federation, among those behind it.

Torrens would not rank any of her four World Championship medals above another. Each came at a different point in her career, she said, but all matter equally. What pleased her most was seeing Spanish women’s basketball remain at a high level across generations.

She said the Berlin bronze was not the only measure of the team’s legacy. Its work, commitment, respect and the way the group came together mattered just as much as the result.
