Balearic forward Alba Torrens wins World Cup bronze with Spain in Berlin on Sunday, earning her fourth medal at the tournament. After the match against Germany, she said the happiness reached far beyond her own achievement.

Torrens credited the whole squad, head coach Miguel Méndez and Elisa Aguilar, president of the Spanish Basketball Federation. Spain had begun its preparation 40 days earlier, she said, and had arrived at the medal as a team.

The veteran said the young squad’s talent was only part of the story. She highlighted their character, maturity and ability to play together, saying they are shining now and will continue to do so.

Torrens would not discuss a possible international retirement. On the day Spain secured bronze, she said, the focus had to remain on the team and the unity that had been crucial throughout the tournament.
