Mallorca health agency appoints Alberto Anguera

Alberto Anguera takes over as director of the Balearic Public Health Agency after the Consell de Govern approved his appointment on Friday, 11 September, in Palma, Mallorca. The agency is an autonomous body responsible for developing and carrying out the Balearic Islands’ public-health powers.

Anguera arrives from the Department for Disease Prevention and Health Promotion, which he currently heads. A veterinary graduate with more than 30 years of professional experience, he has spent much of his career in public health in the Balearic Islands.

His previous work has included food safety, health protection and population cancer-prevention programmes. He has also led organisations and multidisciplinary teams in both the public and private health sectors.

Anguera was managing director of Primary Care from 2004 to 2007 and again from 2014 to 2015. He later served as Sanitas territorial director in the Balearic Islands from 2009 to 2013, before becoming area manager at Quironsalud between 2018 and 2024. He has further training in health leadership and management, including executive programmes at ESADE, IESE and the Instituto de Empresas.

The agency is intended to strengthen prevention, equity and coordination between health and social-sector bodies. Its separate structure is designed to bring information together, respond more quickly, anticipate risks and improve preparation for public-health emergencies.
