Mallorca: two arrested over alleged rape in Palma

In Palma, Mallorca, police arrest two men on suspicion of sexually assaulting a woman while she was unconscious in a flat in the early hours of 4 October. She says she woke hours later with no memory of what had happened. A hospital report records injuries consistent with a sexual assault involving penetration.

The woman had been at the flat with her partner and several acquaintances. Some of the group drank alcohol and took drugs, according to her account, but she and her partner said they had taken neither. When her partner began to feel unwell, she helped him to a bed. She says she later lost consciousness.

She woke in a room in the flat. Elastic bands she had used to fasten her trousers were missing, and her T-shirt was on back to front. She later found her partner outside the flat. Neither could remember how they got there.

Pain and discomfort led her to a hospital with her partner. After she reported what had happened, the Spanish National Police investigated and arrested two men who had been in the flat, according to the Balearic Islands police headquarters.
