Mallorca researcher wins prize for bees and almond trees
Mallorca researcher Gabriel Arbona wins one of six #HiloTesis prizes for an Instagram thread about using Osmia bees to pollinate almond trees. Arbona, a PhD researcher at the University of the Balearic Islands, received the award on Thursday at the Círculo de Bellas Artes in Madrid.
The thread draws on his doctoral work in the university’s Department of Plant Biology, the university said. The competition is run by RedDivulga, a network of the Spanish Universities Rectors’ Conference, with the Ignacio Larramendi Foundation. From 1 to 21 May, 255 people from 53 Spanish universities posted their research on Instagram to bring it to a wider audience.
