Mallorca animal adoption run welcomes runners without pets

Mallorca’s Parc de la Mar in Palma hosts an animal adoption run on Sunday, and runners do not need to bring a pet. The second ‘Ciutat de Palma’ event starts at 10.00, with the start and finish in the park’s gardens in front of the Porta de la Portella. Palma City Council says the run aims to encourage animal adoption.

Runners can enter a competitive five-kilometre race or a non-competitive two-and-a-half-kilometre run. Both routes stay inside Parc de la Mar. The longer race has six prizes: three for the first women to finish and three for the first men. Everyone who completes either route receives a commemorative gift.

Registration closes at 23.00 on Friday 2 October. Runners can collect their race numbers from Espacios Dogma from Friday, or at the event between 8.00 and 8.50.

Deputy mayor Llorenç Bauzá said the council wants to encourage adoptions because a home and family are better for a pet than a shelter. He thanked Peluditos de Son Reus and other volunteer groups for their work with his department.
